Balls and strikes: Yu Darvish, who earlier in the day was announced as the Padres’ opening-day starter, allowed four runs in three innings. All four runs were scored in the second inning, during which the Rangers stole four bases. They stole seven in all against Darvish. … Evan Miller replaced Darvish to start the fourth inning, the earliest the 25-year-old with four games above Double-A has pitched this spring. He allowed a run on a double, sacrifice bunt and grounder. … Mark Melancon allowed a lead-off home run in the fifth. It was just the second run Melancon has allowed in eight innings this spring and broke a stretch of six scoreless innings. … Tim Hill gave up a single and hit a batter before getting a double play and fly ball to finish a scoreless inning.
