Historic home owned by Ulysses S. Grant Jr. is now on the market

-

The historic San Diego home of Ulysses S. Grant Jr. is looking for a new owner.

After a 12-month restoration by noted local homebuilders Bill Davidson and Jeff Phair, the renowned Grant House is now on the market.

An open house will be held Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. at 8357 The Grant Place, Bonita.

Designed by famed architect William S. Hebbard in a Dutch Colonial Revival style, the Grant House was completed in 1894 as a getaway for the family of “Buck” Grant, son of the United States’ 18th President Ulysses S. Grant. Buck Grant called the property “Aloha Ranch.”

The preservation and renovation of this historic property includes original leaded windows, brick walls, hardwood floors, a New England Dutch roof, and four distinctive white exterior columns.

A spectacular 25-foot-tall Moreton Bay fig tree is the centerpiece of the home’s backyard, which now features an expansive outdoor deck and built-in barbecue bar.

Set on 2.6 acres of elevated hillside land with views of San Miguel Mountain and the Bonita Golf Course, the Grant House features a permanent open space preserve for an added sense of privacy.

The home has three bedrooms, two-andhalf bathrooms, designer finishes and an upgraded kitchen. All plumbing and electrical systems have been replaced and modernized.

An application for historical registry designation is in process.

The Grant House is priced at $1,760,000. The seller is Grant Davidson Phair Partners, LLC.
