DEL MAR — Sweet and loving to all who knew her, Mimi passed away surrounded by family at their longtime home in Del Mar, after a courageous battle with small cell carcinoma.

Raised in Miami, Arizona with her brother Ron, Mimi graduated from the University of Arizona, with honors and was a loyal sister of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

She taught elementary school at Cupertino School District, where she met Patrick her husband of 51 years. They settled in Del Mar, and Mimi taught at Rancho

Santa Fe Elementary , earning plaudits as an Outstanding Educator. A loving mother to daughter Mandy and son Sean, her family always came first.

Mimi had a gift of creativity founding Special Things by Mimi in 1980. Her company went on to produce a number of successful children’s plush toys, dolls, and nursery decorations which sold worldwide.

Always a committed community member and friend to all, Mimi was a compassionate and understanding woman who practiced empathy, and friendship. She was fond of long walks on the Del Mar beachfront with her family, travel to Europe, Hawaii, and historic sites.

The family is grateful to the dedicated medical teams at Scripps Hospital for the treatment she received, as well as the staff at Radiant Hospice who provided comfort and care during her final days.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life and burial of her ashes at sea. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts in her honor to Scripps MD Anderson Greatest Needs at www.scripps.org/ memorialdonations.
