STUBBS RESCUES PHILADELPHIA WITH WALK-OFF HOMER

- Phillies 3, Marlins 1

Garrett Stubbs hit a three-run homer with two out in the ninth inning, sending the Philadelphia Phillies to a dramatic 3-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.

Alec Bohm sparked the winning rally with a one-out single against Tanner Scott (2-2). Pinch-hitter J.T. Realmuto walked before Yairo Muñoz struck out swinging for the second out.

That brought Stubbs (Torrey Pines High) to the plate, and he drove a 2-2 slider deep to right for his third homer. He admired the drive for a few seconds before yelling toward the Phillies’ dugout and slamming his bat down in celebration.

It was his first career game-ending homer.

“I couldn’t tell you how I felt (at that moment),” Stubbs said. “There was a lot of excitement and a lot of adrenaline. By the time I got home, everyone was crowding me. I thought I would throw up afterward. The adrenaline was awesome.”

Philadelphia improved to 10-2 since interim manager Rob Thomson replaced the fired Joe Girardi.

“It feels good to win a series against anybody and that’s our fourth in a row,” Thomson said “To win a series against a team in the division is huge.”

Kyle Gibson pitched eight-plus innings for Philadelphia before Connor Brogdon (2-0) got three outs for the win.

Miguel Rojas homered for Miami, and Daniel Castano pitched 62⁄3 scoreless innings. Rojas and Jon Berti each had two hits.

“Obviously, that one is disappointing with the way that we thrown the ball today to get to that point,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. “It’s disappointing. I’ve had enough of those for the year.”

They were sued by his brother Lou Angelos, who claimed John has seized control of the Orioles at his expense and in defiance of their father Peter’s wishes. Peter Angelos became the Orioles’ owner in 1993, but his public role has diminished in recent years and he turns 93 next month. Georgia Angelos said in the statement that John has led the organization effectively since she appointed him chairman and CEO two years ago.

The meeting was brokered in part by New York State Sen. Jessica Ramos, who wrote a letter in January to Mets owner Steven Cohen imploring him to address several issues regarding the employment of minor league players.

Royals RHP Zack Greinke (right flexor strain) is nearing a return from the injured list after an impressive rehab start Sunday at Triple-A Omaha. Greinke threw 49 pitches in five scoreless innings.
