IT’S WRONG TO END LIFE OF AN UNBORN HUMAN BEING

- BY GENEVIEVE PRIDE Pride

I would like to begin with a love letter: Dear beloved:

No matter where you have been or what you have done, you are worthy of love.

If you have been stripped of your dignity, you are worthy of love.

If you are fearful of the unknown, you are worthy of love.

If you feel hopeless, you are worthy of love.

You are welcome, cared for and not alone. With love, A friend. Acknowledgment of the dignity of human life is the beginning of generosity in the spirit. When we fail to recognize the human dignity of others, we invite injustice. Care for humanity requires us to respect the free will of others, while simultaneously pulling them towards the greatest good.

There is an immense lack of respect for the dignity of all human life — the homeless, the disabled, the poor, the discriminated, the unborn ... who are we to decide the value of another person? For there to be real change, we need to show up. There needs to be consistent service. We need to focus our efforts on changing the culture, and building a better one.

I have the privilege of working alongside women who lay down their lives for others every day, not only to help women carry out their pregnancies, but also to help them build a better life for themselves. Many women are found on the street, come from a broken background, abusive relationship, homelessness ... the list goes on. I strongly believe that it is nobody’s choice to take away someone’s right to life, even if they think that person would be better off dead, would be an inconvenience or would not be able to contribute anything to society.

Nobody has any idea what someone’s life will look like, and it is merciless to make the judgment that someone should be allowed to live or not based on their potential circumstances. We need to focus on how we can stop ending lives rather than celebrate, promote and encourage death.

This is the true meaning of what it is to be pro-life: to encourage life, to empower women, to provide solutions and services, and most of all to love unconditionally. Ending the life of an innocent human being is never a solution.

We all need to take a deeper look into what it means to really love, and how we can best go about providing service to others. I recently directed and produced a documentary about the Lamb of God Maternity Home in Escondido.

With their consent, I filmed women who shared their stories about how they went from a crisis pregnancy to not only a healthier lifestyle but a changed perspective with ongoing support from people who care for them.

One hundred percent of women who I have spoken with throughout my life who have had an abortion in their past told me that if they have had someone there for them, they would not have followed through with their abortion.

In a survey published in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, 58.3 percent of women with a history of abortion reported aborting to make others happy and 73.8 percent said that their decision to abort was pressured by others.

We need to ensure that women are feeling supported, have support and are provided with solutions that do not hurt them more, and that do not end the life of another human being.

My recently filmed documentary is currently in post-production and will be posted on YouTube on Aug. 5. To visit my channel, search Genevieve Pride on YouTube.
