SAN DIEGO, CA — Our beloved Cherri passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 8, 2022 after an approximately six-month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She left behind a life of love and service.

Cherri was born and raised in Alpena, Michigan. Her parents were James and Frances Skiver. She graduated from Alpena High School. Cherri gave birth to her oldest son, Shawn, in 1969 and cared for her newborn while watching the Apollo 13 moon landing on her Alpena hospital room TV.

Cherri moved to Detroit where she gave birth to her second son, James. While living in Detroit, Cherri met the man who would become her husband, Garrison “Bud” Klueck. The couple decided to make a “grand tour of Europe” and then move to Southern California.

A new arrival in San Diego, Cherri answered an U-T ad to be a receptionist for the advertising agency, Franklin & Associates (later Franklin/ Storza). Starting as a receptionist, she later rose to be one of the chief organizers of the agency and a Vice President. The agency represented all of the major San Diego institutions including the SD Padres, the SD Zoo, SDG&E, the SD Clippers, and the Union-Tribune.

Her time with Franklin began a more-than-fortyyear career in advertising, marketing, tech, and media. Her most recent experience was at Roni Hicks Advertising, in Carmel Valley, and at CSBImpact Media, where she was working until she was diagnosed with leukemia.

Cherri and Bud were world travelers for decades, visiting about 25 Europeans countries, Egypt in Africa, and Israel and Turkey in Asia. Cherri and Bud made several pilgrimage trips following in the “Footsteps of St. Paul” and to Israel and Turkey. Outstanding river boat trips down the Danube and up the Rhine rivers were made at Christmas time to European Christmas markets.

Cherri was a parishioner at Guardian Angels Parish in Santee. Cherri and Bud studied the Bible for many years with Logos Bible Studies and were involved with Centering Prayer.

Cherri graduated with honors from San Diego City College. Cherri was an intimate helper and life partner at the side of her husband, Bud, as he attended graduate and law school, built his legal career and law practice. Cherri and Bud worked together helping to publish the magazine of San Diego Mensa, the Mensan.

Cherri and Bud were season ticket attendees of Aztec Football, Broadway San Diego. Summer Nights at the Rady Shell, and San Diego Opera.

However, Cherri’s most important and beloved role was that of mother and grandmother. She guided her daughter, Elizabeth Rose, with love as she grew, attended West Hills High School, UC Berkeley, and UC Davis Law School. Her seven grandchildren referred to Cherri as “Memah” or “Mimi” as she cuddled them and taught them life’s lessons.

Cherri is survived by her husband of over forty years, Garrison “Bud” Klueck, her brothers Frank and Dave from Arizona, her children, Shawn, James, and Elizabeth Rose, and her seven grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life is planned for this Saturday afternoon, June 25 between 2pm and 5pm at Del Sur Ranch House, 15445 Paseo del Sur, San Diego, CA 92127.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Cherri’s name to San Diego Opera Pre-Opera lectures. Cherri loved the pre-opera lectures by Dr. Nick Reveles and always made a point of getting to the opera an hour early to attend.
