San Diego State unveiled trolley wraps Friday morning to start spreading the word that the opening of Snapdragon Stadium and the 2022 SDSU football season is nearly here.

Three three-car trolleys will be branded for SDSU’s new stadium and its football team, moving all about the three lines of San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System.

The wrap displayed at the trolley station located at 12th and Imperial avenues included a front car that featured Snapdragon Stadium, a middle car with the date 9.3.22 — when the new stadium debuts with SDSU’s season opener against Arizona — and a rear car with five Aztecs football players — linebacker Caden McDonald, running backs Jordan Byrd and Chance Bell, quarterback Braxton Burmeister and defensive back Patrick McMorris.

“That opportunity to share that Snapdragon Stadium is actually going to open, throughout the entire trolley system, and especially past the stadium, is exciting and important,” said John David Wicker, SDSU’s director of athletics, who was joined by six SDSU cheerleaders for the announcement.

“Partnering with MTS that will be a part of how we’re going to service the fans on game day, having a great trolley stop there that delivers basically to the front door of the stadium . ... We’ve said all along that we want to build a great stadium for San Diego, so having great access to that stadium for our community and having the different options, but the trolley is a key to our success.”

The trolley’s Green Line runs through Mission Valley, though it hasn’t stopped at the stadium site since construction began 23 months ago.

The university is counting on the Stadium Station to be among the primary transportation sources for not just fans but also students. They can ride directly from campus, boarding at the SDSU Transit Center located three stops east of the SDSU Mission Valley site.

Work continues on the trolley plaza, where fans and students will enter and exit the stadium site. Wicker said there is every expectation it will be completed before the season opener.
