SAN DIEGO — Pasquale Gangitano, aka “Pat, the Barber”, went home to Heaven on Tuesday evening, August 2nd at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Carmela and son-in-law, Les Tebbenkamp. He is survived by his children, Michael, John, Annemarie, son-in-law Michael Carter and apple of his eye, granddaughter Sofia. He leaves a lasting legacy in the business community of Adams Avenue, where he operated his barber shop for 60 years. Like Frank Sinatra, he did it his way.

Born in St. Louis, MO on February 12, 1932, Pasquale’s family moved to San Diego’s Little Italy Neighborhood in 1936 where he lived until he married the love of his life, Carmela in 1963. Pasquale worked hard to provide for his family and there was no shortage of the two most important things to Italians, love, and food. Many gatherings and holidays were shared in the house on Curry Drive, where friends became family and all were welcome.

Besides loving his family, Pasquale remained active throughout the years and enjoyed the outdoors, playing racquetball, and traveling. He fulfilled a lifelong dream to go to

Sicily to see his family origins in Mazara del Vallo and was fortunate to visit different parts of the country on three separate trips. He eventually traveled throughout the U.S. to visit family & friends on many occasions, as well as solo trips with travel groups, where he always came home with names and addresses of new friends he made along the way.

Pasquale was proud to call himself ItalianAmerican and was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. In his memory, the family suggests donations to Alzheimer’s San Diego on Ruffin Road. https://www.alzsd.org/ A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 7710 El Cajon Blvd. in La Mesa, on Friday, August 12th at 11am. A lunch reception will immediately follow.
