Area schools receive Purple Star designation

- LAURA GROCH

More than two dozen San Diego County schools have been designated as Purple Star Schools for 2023 by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond.

The California Purple Star Program, in its second year, recognizes schools that support the special needs of students and families who are connected to the military. Fiftynine schools were recognized statewide.

Purple Star Program schools seek to reduce the burden on military-connected students and their families by providing transition support. Military-connected students must move whenever their active-duty parent or guardian is ordered to relocate. These students often face particular academic and social-emotional challenges.
