- BY LINDA MCINTOSH linda.mcintosh@sduniontribune.com

TrueCare, a San Marcosbased nonprofit community health center, opened a dental clinic for kids this month at its Mission Mesa campus in Oceanside.

The clinic is open Saturdays, so kids don’t have to miss school to go to the dentist.

Since TrueCare also offers pediatric care and Women’s Health and Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) services at its Mission Mesa clinic, patients can schedule same-day dental and medical care at a single location, taking care of both appointments in one trip.

The new clinic has six exam rooms with screens for streaming child-centered educational content to make the dental visit more fun. TrueCare provides dental care for both adults and children at five other locations throughout North County and Southwest Riverside County.

TrueCare’s pediatric dental program includes preventive, maintenance and restorative dental health care. Treatments range from routine exams and cleanings and cavity fillings to extractions, fluoride treatments, sealants and deep cleanings.

Pediatric dental patients who visit TrueCare in February during National Children’s Dental Health Month will be entered to win one of 10 prizes, including water flossers and electric toothbrushes.

TrueCare accepts a range of health insurance plans from Medi-Cal, Medicare and Covered CA to commercial insurance. According to TrueCare’s website, the community health center “never turns anyone away due to lack of insurance or inability to pay.”

The nonprofit serves roughly 60,000 patients a year at 19 health centers and WIC offices in North County and Southwest Riverside County.

The new pediatric dental clinic, at 2210 Mesa Drive, is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
