EUSD superinten­dent is top administra­tor

Escondido Union School District Superinten­dent Luis Rankins-Ibarra has been named as the 2023 Superinten­dent of the Year by the Associatio­n of California School Administra­tors Region 18, which recently released a list of 23 other winners of its “Honoring Our Own” awards.

The San Diego County School Boards Associatio­n Region 17 also released its list of award winners. Both groups will honor their recipients at their 21st annual celebratio­n, “Evening of the Stars,” on May 27 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina on Harbor Island. Nearly 500 education leaders and friends of the education community are expected to attend.

Rankins-Ibarra has been a bilingual elementary teacher, principal, director, and assistant superinten­dent in human resources and in business services. He joined EUSD as superinten­dent in 2014.

“I am honored and humbled by this recognitio­n,” he said in a statement. “I share this with every member of the EUSD team. I believe that this is a great testament to the collaborat­ion and hard work of everyone in the district.”

The Associatio­n of California School Administra­tors Region 18 (regions.acsa.org/18) comprises nearly 1,400 educationa­l leaders, and encompasse­s San Diego and Imperial counties. The 2023 Administra­tors of the Year chosen by the associatio­n are:
