WAVE STAR MORGAN STARTS FOUNDATION
The San Diego Wave’s Alex Morgan has launched a charitable initiative, the Alex Morgan Foundation, in support of local girls and women. Morgan said she seeks to “help girls and women find confident paths forward in sport and life.”
The foundation will invest in projects relating to child care, financial aid, sports and leadership, and assist programs Let’s Go South Bay! and Casa Familiar.
Expanding efforts, the foundation will bring local girls teams to Wave home matches beginning with Saturday’s 7 p.m. match at Snapdragon Stadium that will open the team’s second season. Separately, funds will assist local youth teams’ operations. Also, Morgan and the foundation’s partners plan listening sessions with moms and teens.
“I believe that when girls and women are given opportunities in life, it leads to transformative change within themselves and their communities,” says Morgan. “The Alex Morgan Foundation aims to build a more equitable and empowered future everywhere.”

The proposed fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk to become the first undisputed world heavyweight champion since 2000 appeared to be off Wednesday, with the boxers seemingly unable to agree to rematch terms.

Frank Warren, Fury’s British promoter, responded by saying the big stumbling block centered around a dispute over the split of earnings from a rematch.
