PALOMAR COLLEGE BOARD NAMES ESCONDIDO WOMAN AS NEW TRUSTEE

Cassandra Schaeg has been named a provisiona­l trustee on the Palomar Community College District Governing Board.

An Escondido resident, she replaces Christian Garcia, who resigned to take an appointed post on the Escondido City Council representi­ng the city’s District 3.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Schaeg to the Governing

Board, and I look forward to working with her in the College’s continued pursuit of student success,” said Palomar College President/ Superinten­dent Star Rivera-Lacey in a statement. “Ms. Schaeg brings an impressive resume of entreprene­urship, leadership, and community engagement experience to Palomar. As a community college graduate, she understand­s the many paths students take to achieve their goals.”

Schaeg’s appointmen­t was approved during a special meeting Tuesday. Schaeg was sworn in to office by board Vice President Roberto Rodriguez immediatel­y after the 3-1 vote.

She has more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit, private and public sectors focused on education, advocacy and workforce developmen­t in underserve­d communitie­s.

Schaeg is also the founder of SIP Wine & Beer, a tasting room and event space in Escondido specializi­ng in wine and beer made by women and people of color. She is also the co-creator, producer and host of the recent PBSTV series “Fresh Glass,” which shares the stories of entreprene­urs who are women or people of color, especially in the world of food and beverages. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in social science and a Master of Public Administra­tion focusing on public finance.

“I am honored to be appointed to the Palomar Governing Board to continue the mission of encouragin­g students to embrace the best version of themselves and prepare them to engage with our local and global communitie­s,” she said in a statement. “As a community college graduate, entreprene­ur, and advocate, I intend to continue representi­ng Area 2 constituen­ts and the North County community.”

Palomar District Area 2 includes communitie­s within Escondido and San Marcos.
