Police release photos of suspect in assault on rabbi

- SAN DIEGO

San Diego police on Wednesday released photos of a man suspected of screaming antisemetic comments at a rabbi then ripping off part of his religious clothing in a convenience store near San Diego State University in July.

San Diego police are investigating

the incident as a hate crime. There is a reward of up to $3,500 for information leading to an arrest.

The victim, a 65-year-old man, was attacked about 9:50 a.m. July 24 in the 7-Eleven on College Avenue near Montezuma Avenue, not far from Chabad House, police said.

The rabbi was wearing traditional clothing of the Jewish faith when the assailant confronted him and asked if he was Jewish. The stranger then began his verbal barrage and tore off part of the rabbi’s clothing.

Last month, a Chabad House official said in a news release that the assailant ripped the victim’s tzitzit — a traditional Jewish garment — and had made antisemitic and anti-Israel slurs.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest, and said that StandWithUs, an international nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, put up another $2,500 for information leading to an arrest.

Authorities described the suspect as a White man in his late 20s or early 30s. He was about 5 feet, 8 inches tall with an average build. He has long wavy hair that appears to be in dreadlocks. TERI FIGUEROA U-T

Man, 33, dies after driving into parked car in Ramona RAMONA

A 33-year-old man died after crashing his sedan into a parked car on a Ramona street Tuesday, according to a California Highway Patrol official.

The crash was reported about 8:50 p.m. on B Street near Eighth Street.

CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber said the driver was headed west when he drifted to the right and ran into the back of an unoccupied Mercedes sedan on the side of the road.

When paramedics arrived, they found the man unresponsive in the driver seat, Grieshaber said. A Cal Fire helicopter crew airlifted him to Palomar Medical Center, where he died.

Grieshaber said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. The incident is under investigation. CALEB LUNETTA U-T

Man pleads guilty to posing as plastic surgeon in Del Mar SAN DIEGO

A man who posed as a plastic surgeon and saw patients at a Del Mar cosmetic surgery center he owned pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony and misdemeanor charges.

Dario Moscoso, 70, was charged in 2019 with allegedly consulting female patients at the now-shuttered Del Mar Cosmetic Contouring Surgery Center regarding procedures such as “Brazilian butt lifts” and breast augmentations, despite not being licensed to practice medicine.

At a change-of-plea hearing Tuesday, Moscoso pleaded guilty to felony counts of treating the sick/afflicted without a certificate and use of terms and letters falsely indicating right to practice medicine. He also admitted to a misdemeanor battery count.

Mocosco remains out of custody and faces a maximum possible penalty of five years in state prison at sentencing, set for next month.

Earlier this year, a plastic surgeon at the clinic, Gerald Schneider, surrendered his medical license following allegations that included allowing Moscoso to see patients.

According to the Medical Board of California’s allegations against Schneider, Moscoso’s consultations with patients sometimes included seeing them nude and touching their bodies. CITY NEWS SERVICE
