SAN DIEGO — Richard “Dick” Witters, 89, passed away September 13th at the Parkview Hospice Home in San Diego, California.

He was born September 26, 1933 and was the second of three children of Chester and Cecelia Witters. His parents and older sister, Janet, preceded him. He is survived by his younger sister, Gail “Marilyn” Willis.

He married Ruth Margaret (Feld) on January 3, 1953. They lived in the Freeport, Illinois area until 1963 when they decided to move their young family of two sons and a daughter to San Diego.

In 1965, they had a third son, Steven, who preceded them in 2015.

His wife, Ruth, preceded him in 2020.

Richard “Dick” is survived by his two oldest sons, Richard Arthur (Patricia), Mark Allen (Julie), and daughter, Karen Sue (Tom).

He is also survived by grandchild­ren - Jeramya (Nancy) and Jonah; Zachary (Ashenta) and Ashlynn (Steve); Daniel (Cynthia) and Andrew (Alexandra). Great-grandson, Dominic; step-great-grandchild­ren, Sahara, Isabella, and Jesse. Step-grandchild, Sarah; Great-granddaugh­ters, Evannie Rose, Karalee Ann and Felicity Joy; Great-granddaugh­ter, Leona ; and step-greatgrand­children, Theodore and Benicio.

He is also survived by granddaugh­ter, Ruth Margaret (Diego) & grandson, Michael (Justine). Greatgrand­son Malachi. Step-granddaugh­ter, Alin Josefina Hernandez (Salvador); step-greatgrand­children, Alexander and Christophe­r; and step-grandson, Moises Ricardo Hernandez.

Richard “Dick” and Ruth are also survived by several cousins, as well as many nieces, and nephews.

Richard “Dick” and Ruth were buried together in Illinois. Their children Rick, Mark and Karen took their urns back home to Freeport, where a memorial was held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

A San Diego Celebratio­n of Life, with family and friends, was held prior to going to Freeport.

Their love and commitment to family goes on, with all those who survive them.
