‘Love of Chocolate’ fest returning to Escondido

-

Escondido’s Chocolate Festival, themed “For the Love of Chocolate,” returns Feb. 10 — a few days before Valentine’s Day — along Grand Avenue in Escondido’s historic downtown area.

The event, also known as “A Tasting Affair,” features gourmet chocolates paired with local fine wine, Champagne, craft beer and nonalcoholic drinks.

Chocolate lovers can stroll around or take a trolley ride and visit nearly 20 designated tasting locations at restaurants, shops and spas and sample chocolates along with favorite drinks.

Entertainment includes the 2nd Saturday Escondido Arts & Culture event, featuring art galleries, museums and other art venues along with Esco Alley Art.

Many galleries and museums will offer art exhibits and activities for the community. Featured art centers include Distinction Gallery, Art Hatch, Art Tradition and Escondido Arts Partnership.

Highlights include restaurant-inspired, chocolatethemed tastings, Old Town Trolley rides through downtown Escondido, free professional Valentine portrait photos by Shadowcatcher Imagery, raffle prizes and roses, while supplies last.

Raffle prizes are awarded at 5:15 p.m., and ticket holders must be present to win.

There will be event-day discounts and specials from downtown restaurants and retailers.

The festival is presented by the Escondido Downtown Business Association and runs from noon to 5 p.m.

There is a chocolate truffle making class at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.; cost is $45.

For the last 10 years, the event has sold out about a week before the festival, so people are encouraged to get tickets early.

Passport tickets cost $50 if purchased by Friday; $60 if purchased afterward. Designated driver tickets are $40 by Friday; $50 through Feb. 10, if not sold out. The tasting event is for ages 21 and older.
