Arthur died in Oakland on August 25 from complications of chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Beloved husband of Catherine, father of Wendy (Carl Langford) and Susan, grandfather of Martin and Simon Langford. Also surviving are nieces Andrea Myers Malow of Florida and Iva Myers Freeman of Chicago.

Art was born in Chicago in 1925, the third child of immigrant parents. Both parents died young, and older sister Ruth took responsibility for her brother; they remained close until Ruth’s death in 2015. Army service in WWII enabled Art to use the GI Bill to attend Roosevelt University and the University of Chicago Law School. His career in health law brought him to Chicago, Washington D. C. and Oakland. He wrote 2 books and 400 articles on health law. In 1980 he was president of the American Academy of Healthcare Attorneys.

Art was a devotee of art, music, and theater. He travelled the world, camera in hand. He never lost interest in politics, foreign affairs, history, hockey, and baseball. His close friendships dated back to school days in Chicago. More recently Art and Cathy were active in Humanistic Judaism at Kol Hadash, and found wonderful friends at St. Paul’s Towers senior residence.
