Donald H. Auslen

-

Donald Harry Auslen was born January 4, 1932 in Oakland, CA. He was the son of Harry Auslen and Annette Meyer Auslen and the younger brother of Richard M. Auslen (dec.).

Don died on September 15, 2018.

Don spent most of his youth in Piedmont, CA and attended Piedmont High School until the family moved to San Francisco after World War II. He graduated from Lowell High School and kept in contact with many friends from those early years.

Don was a proud Eagle Scout from Troop 2 in Piedmont, CA and continued to volunteer in his local Boy Scout troop until very recently.

Don was also a diehard California Golden Bear (Class of 1954). While at Cal, he lived at Bowles Hall and was active in both intramural sports and The Rally Committee. Don not only attended Cal’s last Rose Bowl Game, but also attended 70 Big Games. He loved his annual trips to The Lair of the Bear, Camp Gold, and was a mentor to several Cal Alumni Scholars.

No other part of Don’s life was more important than his family. Don encouraged his children and grandchildren to give their best to whatever they did, and never tired of sharing their accomplishments.

Don is greatly missed and survived by his wife, Claire Goldsmith Auslen, his children Cathy (Steve) Kassel, Jim (Kim) Auslen, and Lisa Auslen, as well as his grandsons Ethan and Benjamin Kassel and Michael and Jack Auslen.

Plans for a celebration of Don’s life are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The University of California Marching Band or your local Boy Scout Troop.
