PETER HARTLAUB’S POP CULTURE PICK

Sally Field has lived about seven lives as an actress. She has entertained on television, in fun action movies (“Smokey and the Bandit”), as a leading dramatic actress (winning Academy Awards for “Norma Rae” and “Places in the Heart”), a winning comic performer (“Punchline”) and now in smaller but substantial roles in TV and film.

Along the way she’s gathered countless stories, which she tells in her new memoir “In Pieces,” and on the stage Friday, Sept. 28, at City Arts & Lectures, where Field will be interviewed by former San Francisco Chronicle theater critic Steven Winn.

Field continues to act in movies and television, co-starring this month in “Maniac” on Netflix. She’ll tell stories at the Nourse Theater, which has been City Arts & Lectures’ home base since organizers at the speaker series revived the theater in 2012.
