San Francisco Chronicle - (Sunday)
49ers (1-1) at Chiefs (2-0)
Where: Kansas City, Mo. When: 10 a.m. TV/Radio: 2t /810, 107.7
Spotlight on: CB Ahkello Witherspoon. After he was replaced by Jimmie Ward late in last Sunday win against Detroit, the 49ers haven’t committed to Witherspoon starting. They have noted some of their hesitation is injury-related, but Witherspoon (ankle, hip) wasn’t on Friday’s injury report. If he retains his starting role, he will attempt to bounce back from a disastrous performance against the Lions in which he allowed two touchdown passes, committed two penalties and was beaten on two deep passes that were overthrown. Said CB Richard Sherman: “I’d love to see him get back out there and get a chance to redeem himself in a way and get back on the horse.”
Injuries: 49ers – WR Marquise Goodwin (quadriceps) and S Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) are questionable. Chiefs – S Eric Berry (heel) is doubtful; RB Spencer Ware (knee) is questionable.
THINGS TO WATCH FOR
The 49ers have lost four straight at Kansas City and have lost those games by a combined score of 140-36. Their last win at Arrowhead Stadium was Dec. 26, 1982.
In his five starts with the 49ers last year, QB Jimmy Garoppolo threw six TD passes and 5 INTs. In two starts this season, he’s thrown 3 TD passes and 3 INTs.
QB Patrick Mahomes’ 10 TD passes would have matched or surpassed the 49ers’ leader in TD throws in two of the previous three seasons.
