San Francisco Chronicle - (Sunday)

Browns (1-1-1) at Raiders (0-3)

- — Matt Kawahara

When: 1 p.m. Where: Coliseum TV/Radio: 2t /740, 106.9 Spotlight on: Raiders DE Bruce Irvin. The Raiders’ pass rush, you may have heard, has struggled. Oakland’s defense has three sacks in three games. Irvin was almost nonexistent last weekend at Miami, playing just 26 snaps. If all that’s going to change, though, this is the game. Cleveland has allowed 14 sacks, tied for most in the NFL. Yes, 13 of them came with Tyrod Taylor under center — but Irvin and company still have to make Baker Mayfield uncomfortable in his first NFL start.

Injuries: Raiders — S Karl Joseph (hamstring) is out; DT P.J. Hall (ankle) and CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (hamstring) are questionable. Browns — LB James Burgess Jr. (knee) is out; TE Seth DeValve (hamstring), DB Damarious Randall (heel) and QB Tyrod Taylor (concussion/back) are questionable.

THINGS TO WATCH FOR

 The Browns’ defense has 11 takeaways in three games, fueling their NFL-best plus-9 turnover margin. The Raiders’ defense has one takeaway and their overall minus-4 margin in turnovers is tied for the league’s worst. Derek Carr has thrown five interceptions.

 Jon Gruden described the Raiders’ starting field position so far this season as “horrible,” and he’s not wrong. Oakland’s average drive has started at its 22.3-yard line, second worst in the league. That hasn’t made it easy on an offense that has moved the ball well (sixth most yards) but often has petered out in the red zone. The return and punting units must improve.

 The Browns, who ended a 19-game winless streak in their last game, have not won back-to-back games since the 2014 season. Hue Jackson returns to Oakland, where he was ousted as head coach after the 2011 season, and has to be looking for a measure of revenge. Jon Gruden is trying to avoid an 0-4 start despite leading at halftime in Weeks 1-3.
