Born 23 Oc­to­ber 1933 and a na­tive of Bre­mer­ton, Wash­ing­ton, passed away in San Ma­teo on 15 Oc­to­ber 2018 af­ter a long bat­tle with can­cer. She is sur­vived by her chil­dren Alan, Ali­cia and Ch­eryl, neph­ews Dave McAboy (Carol) and Steve McAboy (Linda), nieces Linda Mer­ri­field, Suzy Eileers, Bar­bie Davis (Jack), Fran John­son, Fin­nish cousin Lars Jakob­s­son (Ri­aja), nu­mer­ous grand nieces and neph­ews, and grand dog Sierra. She is pre­ceded in death by her hus­band of 50 years (Wal­ter), mother (Ione Wardell), fa­ther (Eric Hem­ming), birth mother (Nancy Hem­ming), sib­lings and their spouses (Don­ald and Mary Wardell, Kathryn and Johnny John­son, Jean and Bud McAboy, and neph­ews Don­ald Wardell and Thomas John­son.

She en­joyed trav­el­ing the world with her hus­band, cook­ing, and spend­ing time at the fam­ily cabin in Twain Harte. She was ac­tive in her com­mu­nity, be­ing a girl scout leader, PTA pres­i­dent, work­ing at the Sa­mar­i­tan House, serv­ing as the pres­i­dent of the Gar­den Café for two terms, be­ing a teen van ad­vo­cate, and be­ing an ac­tive mem­ber of the Church of the Trans­fig­u­ra­tion in San Ma­teo.

A memo­rial ser­vice cel­e­brat­ing her life will be held on 10 Novem­ber 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Trans­fig­u­ra­tion at 3900 Alameda de las Pul­gas, San Ma­teo, CA.
