Charles F. Maloney, 64, died in San Francisco, California on October 22, 2018. He graduated from Charleston High School and attended Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia.

While in high school and college, Charles worked for Bohnert’s Flowers in downtown Charleston. He highly respected and appreciated his mentor, Charles Bohnert. After his experience at Bohnert’s, he moved to the West Coast and found employment in Ornamental Horticulture at Zappettini Flower Market in the Bay Area.

Charles was an enthusiast of all things related to athleticism and in-line wheels. This included rollerblading, motorcycling and bicycling. He had the privilege of participating in the world of professional cycling for over 10 years. He had the serendipitous opportunities of building race wheels for the 85’ Women’s Tour de France and custom wheels for Cirque du Soleil. He operated his own business, Cycle Analysis, where he used his bike expertise in assemblies, frame configuration and design.

His other passion was in the area of communications. His love for public speaking began when he enrolled as a high school student in the Dale Carnegie Public Speaking Training Program. In 1991, he began employment at Decker Communications in San Francisco. In his tenure there, he taught corporate speech communications, public speaking, press and media both nationally and internationally. Working at Decker Communications was his dream job and he had deep affection for his colleagues.

He had a need for speed (motorcycling), a love of people, dogs and cats, the mountains, music (he was a drummer, belonged in a band), aviation, ice skating, politics, astrophysics, comedy, words (he was a logophile), and all things medical. He was a great cook, loved helping people and making people laugh – he would light up a person’s day. He is dearly missed by neighbors, friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles R. and Ruth Roberts Maloney and brother-in-law, Rev. Lawton Posey.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy G. Ng, San Francisco, CA and his sisters, Bridget L. Maloney Posey and

Sr. Molly Maloney, OSF, Charleston, WV.

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV. Arrangements are in the care of Bollinger Funeral Home, 420 Lee St. W., Charleston WV 25302.
