In a week when PG&E shares hit rock bottom and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg felt the heat in Washington, this also happened:

Comcast Corp. reported $3.2 billion in third-quarter profits as the cable and media giant added more high-speed internet customers but continued to shed less profitable pay TV viewers. NBCUniversal’s revenue dropped 3.5%, down in cable and broadcast television, and film, but up in theme parks. Finnish tech company Nokia warned that its profit in the current quarter will be lower than expected because of tough competition and costs related to next-generation 5G networks. Mobile operators are cautious about the new networks amid global concerns about cybersecurity. The company reported a 14% decline in third-quarter net profit, to $296 million, but its sales were up 4%. Nokia said it plans to stop dividend payments so it can boost investments into 5G. It pledged to resume them after its cash position improves. New home sales fell slightly in September, with all regions of the country except the Midwest showing declines. The Commerce Department said sales of new homes fell 0.7% last month, after a 6.2% increase in August. Homes were sold at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 701,000, 15.5% higher than a year ago. Many economists had expected sales to keep rising in September. The median price of a new home fell 7.9% last month, to $299,400, down from an August price of $325,200. A man says he and his hiking companion were rescued after they fell off a cliff in New Jersey because the impact signaled his Apple Watch to call 911. James Prudenciano and Paige Paruso were hiking in Hartshorne Woods Park when they got lost and tumbled down as darkness set in. Prudenciano had activated the feature that alerts the owner’s emergency contacts and calls 911 when it detects that its user has fallen. Rescuers were eventually able to reach the couple, who were taken ashore by a boat. They were treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries.
