San Francisco Chronicle - (Sunday)
Slim’s nightclub
333 11th St., S.F.
Thank you, Slim’s, for giving so many artists their start and staying eclectic until the end. Started by Bay Area music titan Boz Scaggs in 1988, Slim’s became much more than a rock and blues place. The 600capacity venue was a starting point in San Francisco for many big acts of the future, including Radiohead, Sheryl Crow and Bruno Mars, and an intimate venue for David Bowie and the Foo Fighters. Later, it became a home for popular punk, rap and alternative acts that fit perfectly into that midsize venue, from the Coup and Andre Nickatina to Bob Mould and NOFX. (The latter recorded a live album there.) “Slim’s had its day,” Scaggs told The Chronicle’s Joel Selvin. Slim’s announced its closure, unrelated to COVID19, two days after the shelterinplace started on March 18, 2020.
