LT Trent Williams: That was an aberration, right? Williams insisted perception of his performance in last Sunday’s loss to the Eagles didn’t square with reality, saying the staff’s grading system was kinder than those of his critics. Still, the seventime Pro Bowler privately couldn’t have been thrilled with a two- penalty night that included a few high- profile missed blocks. Williams will look to bounce back against a less fearsome group of pass rushers. He figures to see plenty of defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, who has 20 sacks in his three- team, five- year career.

Dolphins — DE Shaq Lawson ( shoulder) is out. 49ers — CBs Emmanuel Moseley ( concussion) and Dontae Johnson ( groin) are out; RB Raheem Mostert ( knee), CB Ahkello Witherspoon ( hamstring) and WR Deebo Samuel ( illness) are questionable.

Injury notes:

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH

Miami rookie left tackle Austin Jackson, the No. 18 overall pick, was placed on injured reserve Friday with an ankle injury. He is expected to be replaced by Julie’n Davenport, 25, who made eight of his 27 career starts last year. George Kittle has 19 receptions on 20 targets in two games this season. Last Sunday, his 15 catches tied for the second most by a tight end in a game in NFL history behind Jason Witten ( 18 for the Cowboys against the Giants in 2012) Kellen Winslow ( 1984) and Zach Ertz ( 2014) also caught 15 in a game. Miami’s Ryan Fitzpatrick ranks fourth in rushing yards ( 115) among quarterbacks. QBs have rushed for 184 yards, averaged 6.8 yards a carry and scored two TDs against the 49ers this season.

Focus. Mullens committed three turnovers, two of which were direct results of passrush pressure.

The 49ers also have struggled to run effectively without Mostert. Their running backs have averaged 2.7 yards on 45 carries in the past two games. The twogame stretch has marked the first time since 2017 that the 49ers’ running backs have failed to gain at least 65 yards in consecutive games.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged the linemen have heard the countless critiques of their primetime performance.

“To kind of be under the spotlight on ‘ Sunday Night Football’ when everybody’s watching and not to have the success that they’re used to having … sometimes guys are going to be a little bit sensitive coming in,” Shanahan said. “It’s not fun for people to get called out like that, and our guys couldn’t have been more the opposite. We’ve got some men in our group — some guys who are very accountable.”

Mullens, who lacks mobility, wasn’t able to hide any passprotection deficiencies by moving from the pocket. And Garoppolo, who is more adept at extending plays, might not be much more elusive Sunday.

Garoppolo was limited in his first two practices since his injury before he was a full participant in Friday’s session, which is typically an hourlong practice conducted at less than full speed.

Garoppolo acknowledged he’s not fully recovered, saying his ankle took some time to “loosen up” during each practice.

“We’ve had the whole week to work on it,” Garoppolo said, “so it’s feeling pretty good right now.”
