- DAILY BRIEFING

In a week when Wall Street took its cues from Washington, this also happened:

Ford wound down production of the 2020 Ford F- 150, the best- selling pickup in North America, and the two plants where it’s made shut down to prepare for the all- new 2021 version of the truck. It marks the first F- 150 redesign since 2015, and Ford has already received orders for the truck sight unseen. They are expected to land in dealerships by the end of the year.

Amazon unveiled a prototype of one of three electric vehicles being developed in partnership with Rivian, an electric truck startup. The online retail giant expects to have 10,000 of the Rivian electric delivery vans on the road worldwide by 2022, and 100,000 by 2030. The vans are designed specifically for package delivery, with a large windshield, exterior cameras offering a 360- degree view, hands- free navigation guidance, three levels of shelves and what Rivian calls a dance floor inside the cabin for easy package retrieval. The prototype sports an Amazon nameplate on the front grill. Long- term mortgage rates flattened out after a yearlong decline amid economic anxiety in the recession set off by the coronavirus pandemic. Home loan rates have remained at historically low levels. Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac reported that the average rate on the 30- year loan eased to 2.87% from 2.88% the previous week. The rate averaged 3.57% a year ago. The average rate on the 15- year fixed- rate mortgage rose to 2.37% from 2.36%. The low borrowing rates have bolstered demand but there is a scarcity of homes for sale.

Apple TV+ subscriptions that came with the purchase of a new Apple device last year are set to end Nov. 1, but will be extended through Jan. 31, TechCrunch reported. With coronavirus restrictions still in effect most places, the Cupertino company is kicking in a few more months. And keeping those viewers around also boosts Apple’s numbers, TechCrunch points out.
