Lamplighters to dunk on Austen and Bad Janet

In addition to the company’s vivacious exploration of the work of Gilbert and Sullivan ( and other operettas), one of the highlights of the Lamplighters’ season has long been its annual gala. This is an original show, assembled each year by the company’s brain trust, that uses the familiar shows to spoof a variety of material, both topical and otherwise.

No pandemic is going to stand in the way of this tradition, so this year’s show, led by Music Director Robert Stafford, will be prerecorded and remain available to stream for a month afterward.

The title — “Pride and PreExisting Conditions, or Holy Forking Murgatroyd, It’s the 2020 Gala!” — conveys some sense of the undertaking. Expect gags about Jane Austen, “The Good Place” and more.
