Reservation in shutdown
The Oglala Sioux Tribe has shut down the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation for one week in response to surging coronavirus cases in the state.
The shutdown began at 10 p. m. Friday and lasts until 6 a. m. Oct. 30 when all noncritical travel is barred. The tribe says nonessential businesses should close to the public and travel to nonessential work or nonemergency medical appointments to or from the reservation should stop. The shutdown comes as South Dakota reported record high cases last week. The Oglala Sioux Tribe said there were 391 active cases on the reservation.
