USC stops UCLA; Pac12 title game next

Kedon Slovis threw an 8yard touchdown pass to AmonRa St. Brown with 16 seconds left as No. 16 USC rallied to beat host UCLA 4338 at the Rose Bowl on Saturday.

The Trojans ( 50), who will host Washington in the Pac12 championsh­ip game Friday after winning the league’s Southern Division title, trailed 3836 after Nicholas BarrMira kicked a 43yard field goal with 52 seconds left.

Gary Bryant’s 56yard kickoff return then set up USC in UCLA territory, and Slovis’ 35yard pass to Tyler Vaughns got the Trojans to the UCLA 8.

Slovis then found St. Brown for the goahead score.

The Bruins ( 33) led 2110 at halftime and pushed their lead to 18 points when Brittain Brown scored on a 15yard run early in the third quarter.

Utah 38, # 21 Colorado 21: Ty Jordan scored twice, once on a gamesealin­g 66yard TD burst, and the Utes beat the host Buffaloes ( 41, 31 Pac12) to end Colorado’s chance to play for a conference title.

Utah ( 22, 22) trailed 2110 at halftime in part because Colorado freshman Brenden Rice, the son of Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice, scored on an 81yard punt return and a 61yard screen pass.

Boise State 17, Wyoming 9: The Broncos ( 51, 50 Mountain West), who will face San Jose State in the conference championsh­ip game next Saturday at a site to be announced Sunday, got a touchdown pass from Hank Bachmeier and a TD run from Andrew Van Buren in their win over the host Cowboys ( 24, 24).

# 1 Alabama 52, Arkansas 3: DeVonta Smith returned a punt 84 yards for a touchdown and the visiting Crimson Tide ( 100) scored 28 points in a span of 11 minutes in the first half against the Razorbacks ( 37). Alabama will play Florida in the SEC championsh­ip game.

LSU 37, # 6 Florida 34: Max Johnson threw three touchdown passes in his first college start, Cade York kicked a 57yard field goal with 23 seconds remaining and the visiting Tigers ( 45) stunned the Gators ( 82).

Florida had a chance to tie the score, but Evan McPherson was wide left on a 51yard fieldgoal attempt on the final play.

# 20 North Carolina 62, # 9 Miami 26: Michael Carter ( 308 yards) and Javonte Williams ( 236 yards) set an NCAA record by combining for 544 yards rushing as the visiting Tar Heels ( 83, 73 ACC) beat the Hurricanes ( 82, 72).

Carter’s and Williams’ combined total topped the NCAA’s listed FBS record for teammates, set Nov. 30 when Buffalo’s Jaret Patterson ( 409) and Kevin Marks ( 97) rushed for 506 against Kent State.

# 11 Coastal Carolina 42, Troy 38: Jaivon Heiligh caught a 23yard touchdown pass from Grayson McCall with 45 seconds left as the Chanticlee­rs ( 110, 80 Sun Belt) edged the host Trojans ( 56, 34).

# 12 Georgia 49, Missouri 14: JT Daniels passed for 299 yards and three touchdown as the visiting Bulldogs ( 72) beat the Tigers ( 54).

# 15 Northweste­rn 28, Illinois 10: Cam Porter ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns, Evan Hull added 149 yards on the ground and the host Wildcats ( 61) tuned up for the Big Ten championsh­ip game against No. 3 Ohio State by beating the Illini ( 25). Northweste­rn won the Big Ten West after finishing last in the division in 2019.

# 19 Iowa 28, # 25 Wisconsin 7: Spencer Petras threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns as the Hawkeyes ( 62 Big Ten) beat the visiting Badgers ( 23).

# 24 Buffalo 56, Akron 7: Jaret Patterson rushed for 105 yards to become the 12th player to surpass 1,000 yards rushing in the first five games of the season, and Kevin Marks added 182 yards on the ground as the host Bulls ( 50 MidAmerica­n Conference) beat the Zips ( 15). Patterson has 1,025 yards this season. Buffalo, the MAC East champion, will face West champ Ball State ( 51) for the conference title.

Army 15, Navy 0: Tyhier Tyler scored on a 4yard run early in the fourth quarter and the host Black Knights ( 82) beat the Midshipmen ( 37) at Michie Stadium, the first meeting between the teams at West Point

Vanderbilt’s Fuller makes more history

NASHVILLE — Sarah Fuller became the first woman to score in a Power Five conference football game, kicking two extra points for Vanderbilt in a 42- 17 loss to Tennessee on Saturday. “This whole time has been if I can do it, if I’m good enough to do it,” said Fuller, a goalie on the women’s soccer team. “It wasn’t if I was a girl or not. So that’s something I’ve really appreciate­d. At the end of the day, they treated me like an athlete, and that’s the best I could ask for.” Fuller made history as the first female to play in a Power Five conference game on Nov. 28 with a squib kickoff to open the second half at Missouri. since 1943. The game was moved from its customary site in Philadelph­ia because of COVID19 regulation­s in Pennsylvan­ia.

Briefly: Arizona fired head coach Kevin Sumlin a day after a 707 loss to Arizona State extended the Wildcats’ losing streak to 12 games spanning two seasons. He will receive a $ 7.5 million buyout. ... Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard opted out of the rest of the season to prepare for the NFL draft. Hubbard, a junior, ran for 625 yards and five touchdowns in five games this season before an ankle injury sidelined him. He led the nation with 2,094 yards rushing last season.
