Pearl A. Dittman

January 9, 1929 - November 21, 2020

Our sweet mother, Pearl Dittman, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2020 with her family at her side.

Pearl Sanchez, along with her twin brother Julian, was born in Phoenix, Arizona to John and Manuela Sanchez. The family moved from Arizona to San Francisco and eventually the San Joaquin Valley. When Pearl returned to SF in her 20’ s she met Ken Dittman and they were married on April 16, 1955 and remained so for 60 years. They raised their family on 15th Avenue in San Francisco, with summers spent at Camp Mather. Pearl took great pride in her role as wife, mom, and homemaker. Our home was always open to extended family and friends with Pearl as the perfect hostess. This was also evident to the leagues of our childhood friends who were lucky enough to enjoy summer visits to our cabin in Mather. Our parents instilled a love of the outdoors during our backpacking trips around Yosemite. Mom was always ensuring our comfort, once staying up all night when it snowed on us to keep our hiking boots warm by the campfire! Ken and Pearl acquired the cabin in Peach Growers so this legacy can live on.

Pearl worked outside the home at the Cow Palace and for the Giants. During her employment she ended up being the unofficial recruiter and placed numerous teenagers with good paying jobs; or getting tickets to Giants games for all who asked. Many share fun memories of working the Grand National Rodeo and other big events with Pearl.

Pearl was small in stature but had a huge heart, she lovingly cared for our Dad during his Alzheimer’s disease. Always concerned about everyone but herself, she was selfless.

Pearl was the best mother we could ask for to Ken Dittman ( Marilyn), Janet Kelly ( Terry), Andrea Spillane, and Carole Hurley ( Mike). She was the cherished and much- loved grandma to Kaitlyn, Nicholas, and Mallory Spillane; Jim ( Katie) Hurley, Amanda ( Cullen) CampbellBowen, Colin ( Casey) Kelly, Mariah Kelly; Kendall and Danielle Dittman. Great- grandma to Clare Kelly. Predeceased by her husband Ken and siblings, Mary, John, Manuel, Charlie and Julian. She is survived by her dear brother Joe and his wife, Gloria.

Due to Covid, there will be no formal service. Donations can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor SF, 300 Lake Street, San Francisco, CA 94118 or charity of your choice.
