Dr. Patricia Schoenfeld Sebastian passed away peacefully in her home in Glen Park, San Francisco, on December 1, 2020.

Pat was born in Denver, Colorado to her mother, Katherine Brauch, father Albert Joseph Schoenfiel­d and brother, Albert Anthony Schoenfiel­d. She spent much of her youth in New Mexico with her father who was District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America. As an adult, Pat traveled the world with her beloved mother “Katie,” sharing many adventures and memories.

She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Zoology from University of California at Berkeley in 1961. Dr. Patricia Schoenfeld continued to earn her medical degree at University of California at San Francisco, graduating in 1965, where she met her life- long companion Dr. Anthony Sebastian whilst playing table tennis. Pat completed her residency in 1969 at the University of California at San Francisco.

Pat was one of the first female nephrologi­sts. She was faculty at San Francisco General Hospital for many years with Frank Gotch, where she served in developing optimal dialytic therapies and taught Renal Medicine and Dialysis to countless Fellows.

Pat and Anthony Sebastian were married at Old Saint Mary’s in San Francisco on June 20, 1964. They shared 54 loving years together, not only in matrimony but with their combined accomplish­ments in medicine. Her devotion to Anthony will always be remembered and appreciate­d by their loved ones.

Dr. Patricia Schoenfeld Sebastian was a lover of classical music having been an accomplish­ed pianist in youth and later in life as a season ticket holder and supporter of the San Francisco Symphony. She loved the game of baseball and was an avid Giants fan, often attending games, with much of her wardrobe being orange. She loved sharing these activities with friends and family.

Her generosity and loving interest were unwavering.

Family and friends always found an open door with a table of gourmet food as she loved to cook, welcoming others into her heart and home.

Patricia will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her brother- in- law John Sebastian, her sister- in- law, Sue Sebastian, her nieces and nephews, Krist and Anthony Peter Sebastian, and her cousins Lisa Passin, Lola Flores, and Jean Porter. Due to COVID- 19 a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UCSF Class of 1965 Anthony and Patricia Sebastian Endowed Scholarshi­p Fund.
