Mike Fegan: Coach, Chef, Disc Jockey, Athlete, Ref, Ump, Manager.

More importantly: Son, Brother, Uncle, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend. Mike was larger than life.

Mike was the youngest son of the legendary Fred and Edna Fegan. He was the awesome father of Ty ( George), Pete, and Matt ( Katy). Mike loved his sister, Sandy, his brother, Fred ( Karen), and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He loved his grandchildren fiercely, and they will dearly miss their “GP”.

Mike was born and raised in San Francisco’s Sunset District where he attended St. Gabriel. After graduating from Sacred Heart High School, he ventured off to Olympia Washington to attend St. Martin’s College. This is where Mike met the love of his life, Dulce. Mike and Dulce shared 45 years of marriage together and made countless memories. Their life together was an adventure, and they shared one helluva journey.

In addition to family, one of Mike’s other passions was being involved in youth sports. Mike loved to coach, ref, and umpire as often as he could. If

“Bay Area Sports Trivia 1950- Present” was a Jeopardy category, Mike would dominate. He remembered every kid he ever coached, and he lit up telling stories about FLAME, P. A. L., CYO, Joe DiMaggio League, AAA, WCAL, and anything in between. With great pride, his final coaching job was helping coach both his grandsons’ basketball teams at St. Gabriel. The kids thought Coach Mike was “old school”, and he was in his element.

You were guaranteed a great time in Mike’s company. He loved playing music, talking sports, golfing, and cooking. Every dinner party was unique. From lobster corn- dogs and foie gras to the tunes of Van Morrison and Cheap Trick... that was Dad.

Throughout his life, Mike displayed a trait that later the doctors nick- named “Fegan Strength”. He was our rock, our coach, our manager, and our backbone. We will miss him deeply.

The family wishes to thank the amazing staff at UCSF. We are eternally grateful. In lieu of flowers please donate to UCSF Cancer Research, or any youth sports program of your choice. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date, when gatherings are allowed.

Forever in our hearts Dad, we love you always.
