San Francisco Chronicle - (Sunday)
Lillian Marie McKernan
September 17, 1933 - December 10, 2020
Lillian Marie Harrington McKernan passed away with her family by her side on December 10, 2020. Born in San Francisco to her wonderfully warm and loving parents Denis and Mary Harrington. She was predeceased by her brother, Emmett, and her husband of 50 years, Frank. Her father was a gardener foreman at Golden Gate Park. A first generation Irish San Franciscan, she was a modern City girl who was intelligent, quick witted, polished and professional. She got together regularly with her lifelong girlfriends from St. Anne’s Grammar School and Star of the Sea Academy. She met her future husband, Frank, at USF and they married in 1955. They had four children; Marianne ( Peter) Krainock, Michael ( Sharon) McKernan, Patty McKernan ( Dave), Colleen ( Matthew) Walraven. She cherished her time with all seven grandchildren, Aidan and Andrew Krainock, Kaitlin and Mel McKernan, Alec and Grayson Mullen, and Grace Walraven. She worked as a legal secretary, and later as an Executive Assistant for McGraw Hill Book Company and the
S. F. Chronicle. She loved to read, sew, knit, garden and dance the Irish jig at family parties. She always made time to listen to her kids who often interrupted her morning routine of sitting in the living room with the morning sun streaming in, sipping a cup of coffee and reading the Chronicle cover to cover. A special thank you to the staff at Nazareth House in San Rafael for keeping her safe, sound and loved as she well deserved.
