Carol Orchison West

July 19, 1930 - November 17, 2020

Carol passed away peacefully at her home in Moraga on November 17th with family at her side.

Raised in Burlingame, CA, Carol was the daughter of Harold and Mary Alice Sanford, and the younger sister of Jeanne Rice. After graduating from Burlingame High School, she attended Cal Berkeley, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Upon graduation in 1952, “Cac” as she was affectionately known, married her college sweetheart Bill Orchison. Their three children were raised in Orinda, CA and McLean, VA. Carol and Bill treasured the many friendships they formed over the years. They were married for 42 years until Bill’s passing in 1994. In 1997 Carol married fellow Cal alum Kirby West, and his three daughters and their families brought her much joy. Carol enjoyed her longtime affiliations with the Lombardy Branch of Children’s Hospital and Cal Alumni Association, as well as trips to Palm Desert, lunches with her “sewing” group, coordinating Big Game parties, and cheering for the Cal Bears and 49ers. She cherished her time with family and especially loved her role as Grammy to her 8 grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Marianne Lehman ( Cliff), Nancy Orchison, Jim Orchison ( Nicole), and grandchildren Matt, Ryan, Kevin, Trevor, Courtney, Nicholas, Grant and Lena.

Carol was a beautiful person and touched everyone she met with her sincere kindness. Family and friends will be invited to a celebration of life in her honor at a later date. Donations can be made to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals Foundation P. O. Box 45339, San Francisco, CA 94145- 0339.
