Joseph passed away peacefully on December 16, 2020. Joe, as we all knew and loved him, was born January 14, 1931 in San Francisco, son of Dante Maionchi and Caterina ( Maffei) born in Italy. He was devoted husband married to Julia ( Picetti) in 1954. He also leaves behind two great grandsons Mason and Abel.

Joe attended St. Peter School and furthered his education at the University of San Francisco where he graduated with a teaching credential, majoring in Spanish. As a young man Joe loved to dance the Jitterbug. He started his fulltime teaching career while living in Tuolumne City, CA where he learned to love the outdoors. He later moved back to the Bay Area where he taught for the Jefferson Union High School District. Teaching was Joe’s passion and his students loved his sense of humor. He taught until he turned 83 years of age. He spent his retirement years in Millbrae California where enjoyed being an amateur radio operator, spending time with Julia on long walks, his family and a good meal.

Limited Services will be held at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary and he will lie in rest at the Italian Cemetery in Colma, CA. Donations may be made in Joe’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital 100 Bush St. San Francisco, Ca 94104.
