Christmas has long been a big day for movie fans but this year, Bay Area theaters are closed. Still, Hollywood is in a giving mood, as two of 2020’ s mosthyped films will be available to stream straight into our homes for the holiday: Disney+ will give us “Soul,” the latest Pixar film, and HBO Max is sending us “Wonder Woman 1984.” The timing of these releases isn’t a coincidenc­e. The providers are battling for your attention, and your dollars, during a time when box office revenue is almost nonexisten­t. But which of these streaming services is right for you? Kemp has been asked to become involved in future Pixar films, and he said he has detected progress at Pixar culturally since coming aboard in 2018.

“I’m seeing change being implemente­d. I’ve seen it just in the couple of years I’ve been working there, and I expect to see a lot more,” Powers said. “It’s more than just lip service. Looking at some of the films coming down the line, you’re going to see a dramatic change in the voices that are being allowed to rise up, and the new voices like myself that are being invited in.”

Diversifyi­ng Pixar isn’t Docter’s only challenge.

Soon after the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke and the # MeToo movement was born in late 2017, allegation­s of workplace misconduct against Lasseter surfaced. Lasseter took a sixmonth leave of absence and left the company in June 2018, handing the reins to Docter.
