Seniors are in need

Trump needs to put America first, accept election results

- Beverly Scott, San Francisco Margaret Ware, San Francisco Elisabeth Ochs, San Francisco

Regarding “Trump takes bold stand against waste in bill” ( Letters, Dec. 26): It is kind of ironic that the letter writer who accused the S. F. Chronicle staff of cherrypicking its commentary about President Trump to make him out to be the villain of the stimulus package did exactly the same thing in praising him for putting America first by threatening to veto the current stimulus bill simply because it contained about 400 million to be spent in places like Cambodia, the West Bank and Myanmar. Think about it, please.

If Trump were to truly put America first before himself and his family, all he would have to do would be to accept the results of the recent election and stop making false accusations about the integrity of the fair and free elections in which we — the American people — have voted him out of office. numbers within which they can, and must plan to make environmental progress.

Your board should be optimistic at the prospects, and not just rely on the growthdriven revenues to formulate a mythical solution. Stability can be the beginning of actual measurable progress as opposed to handwringing. Let’s get to it with an actual chance of success!

The writer asked if it is fair that retired people are being included in the stimulus payouts. He claims they remain one of the main groups of citizens that had a guaranteed income and saved money during the pandemic.

I agree that there are many retired people who have not lost a job and do have a guaranteed income, including myself.

But, I would like to remind all of us that a large number of seniors do not have savings or receive enough Social Security to pay their rent or buy healthy food. I am sure they will be grateful if they receive one of the payouts. enough is enough.

The litany of ills President Trump has caused and/ or inflicted is too long to recite; suffice it to say, we as a nation have suffered, in varying ways and to different degrees. Holidays are intended for recreation of body and soul. Nothing of the sort has happened since Trump took office.

Dangers of drilling

Regarding “Newsom OKs big jump in drilling permits” ( Front Page, Dec. 25): After the past several years of devastating California firestorms and record heat, I am appalled by Gov. Gavin Newsom’s reckless decision to approve more drilling permits.

Increased fossil fuel consumption renders our already exhausted state hotter, drier and smoggier. This isn’t just an aesthetic complaint.

Climate change and its attendant fires have already led to increased risk and misery for Californians with asthma and COPD, farmworkers who labor under increasingly intolerable conditions, our firefighters and of course, those who have lost their homes, businesses and communities to raging fires. Is this really the California our governor wants to pass on to his children?
