Nita Vinetta Mersman McCarthy
Nita Vinetta Mersman McCarthy left us on January 17, 2021. She was in her own bed surrounded by her family. She didn’t feel 95, she didn’t feel ‘old’. Her smile and kindness will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Born in Vancouver, Canada she moved to San Francisco in her early twenties and felt immediately at home. What fun she had doing office work and eventually modeling at I Magnum’s. She replaced another model there who left to get married. That model turned out to be her future sister-in-law. She married Scudder Mersman Jr. a young banker. His work in international banking eventually moved them to London for 2 years where he was the branch manager and then to Paris for 8 years with more responsibilities for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She loved entertaining and traveling and made many friends all around the world. In 1968 they moved back to the states and settled in Hillsborough, CA. Their very happy marriage was cut short by the death of Scudder from cancer. A few years later she met Jerry McCarthy and was blessed with another happy marriage. Sadly, that too was cut short with his death after only 10 years.
Nita is survived by her two children, Joan Mersman and Scudder Gordon Mersman and his wife Melanie, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
What an exuberant and happy mother she was. One of her favorite quotes was ‘The only disability in life is a bad attitude’.
May that spirit guide us all.
