Cindy Harris

-

Cindy Harris, 92 years young, passed away with dignity and grace on January 5th. She bravely fought a short but intense battle with cancer. Fearless and matter of fact during this time, Cindy found moments to reflect on good things in her life as was her true nature.

Raised in SF/Alameda with a deep love for music; she loved practicing piano in spite of her stepfather’s complaints. Her passion for music resulted in being a dedicated fund raiser for the Green Center and supporter of the Santa Rosa Symphony League. She opened her home to musicians; feeding them as they came from far away.

She attended UC Berkeley meeting her husband, Sandy Harris, at a party. Cindy worked in Public Relations at United Airlines. Sandy and Cindy shared an active life in SF raising three children. She began her highly respected career as a Real Estate Broker/Owner while Sandy directed a City Mental Health Center.

Their lives were filled with parties for clients/family and friends, the Symphony, along with her volunteer work for Friends of the Urban Forests bringing trees to SF streets. She and Sandy were among the first to break ground tending to the Aids Grove in Golden Gate Park.

Cindy and Sandy moved to Kenwood where they lived a very full life volunteering, playing tennis, entertaining and cherishing her granddaughters’ visits.

As Sandy’s health began failing they moved to Varenna in Santa Rosa.

There Cindy wrote biographies for new residents, was part of the Welcoming Committee, and active in the World Affairs Council. She was a lifelong learner, health advocate; known for her passion in gardening; always interested in other people’s wellbeing and the political state of the nation. Those who knew Cindy would describe her as ‘elegant, welcoming, fun loving, courageous, irreverent, gracious, generous, determined, humble’. Cindy’s motto in life was, ‘If you could do something do it, if not get on with life’. She was a class act. Predeceased by Sandy and son, Greg, she leaves behind her two children, Cathy (Tony) and Rob (Cynde) and 5 granddaughters: Talia (Leon), Brie, CJ (Pat), Kelly, Dana (Spencer) and great grandson, Kyan. Donations in Cindy’s memory can be made to the Santa Rosa Symphony or KQED. Online condolences may be made at www.adobecreekfuneralhome.com.
