Deep thoughts, cheap shots & bon mots ...

Jimmy Garoppolo, take heart. On the 49ers’ wish list of a reasonable quarterback option for next season, I’ve got you in their top 10.

Congratulations to John Lynch on his election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He almost upstaged himself, though, by revealing his predraft experience with Patrick Mahomes in 2017. Everyone knows the 49ers (and eight other teams) passed on Mahomes, the 49ers because they hoped to snag Kirk Cousins. But Lynch recently confessed he went to Mahomes’ pro day and was blown away. “I mean, it was remarkable.” Worse, the 49ers took Mahomes to dinner and were very impressed. It would be excusable if Mahomes simply sneaked past the 49ers’ radar. But no. They not only kicked the tires, they took the tires to dinner.

We can debate whether the

Warriors’ “Oakland” jerseys are a cynical exploitation of the fans they deserted, or a heartfelt tribute to Oakland. But I guarantee you the won’t be rocking any “Oakland” theme on their unis. If you live in Oakland, email me (sostler@sfchronicle.com) and tell me how you feel about those “Oakland” jerseys. You buying?

I would love to see the Giants and Warriors wear “Frisco” jerseys. Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg chronicled the City’s beauty, heartbreak and soul, and they called it Frisco. That’s good enough for me.

It’s sad to see Pebble Beach get squeezed out of golf relevance by Saudi Arabia and Los Angeles. The famed annual AT&T Pebble Beach ProAm got snubbed by the world’s top golfers, partly because they want a rest between last week’s bigpayoff Saudi International and next week’s Genesis Invitational in L.A. The AT&T has become the great little family diner you speed past on your way from IHOP to McDonald’s.

What the PGA Tour should do: Make the AT&T Pebble Beach ProAm the fifth major. Boost your sport by giving the world’s coolest golf course and the prettiest corner of this country their proper showcase. Cheers to Mark Cuban for being the first — and maybe last — pro team owner to challenge the tradition of playing the national anthem. The league made Cuban back off, but that was a gutsy move. We can debate the anthem issue all day, but I remember some song bragging about how this is the “land of the free.” Hey, NBA, want to be helpful? Launch a vaccine education program. Surveys show Black and Hispanic people are hypervulnerable to coronavirus infection, and they are the groups most wary of the vaccine. Have your superstars jump into a campaign to educate fans and encourage the vax. Shaquille O’Neal’s Krispy Kreme stand in Atlanta burned down last week. Now it’s just Krispy.
