Suns roll by 76ers; Jazz win

Devin Booker scored 36 points, Chris Paul added 18 points and 10 assists and the Phoenix Suns beat the visiting Philadelph­ia 76ers 120111 on Saturday for their fifth straight win.

The Suns (169) have won eight of their past nine.

Joel Embiid had 35 points on 12of23 shooting for the Sixers (189), who have lost two in a row but still hold the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Donovan Mitchell scored 26 points to lead the NBAleading Utah Jazz (225) to their seventh consecutiv­e victory and 18th of 19, 11294 over the visiting Miami Heat. In other games, Doug McDermott scored 26 points, Myles Turner had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and the visiting Indiana Pacers beat the Atlanta Hawks 125113 . ... Baseball: Freeagent third baseman Justin Turner, an anchor in the Dodgers’ lineup for most of their eight straight NL West titles and the 2020 World Series championsh­ip, tweeted that he will stay in Los Angeles. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the deal was for two years and more than $30 million. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jack Flaherty and Atlanta Braves pitcher Mike Soroka won their salary arbitratio­n cases, and Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Ryan Yarbrough lost his case. Flaherty was awarded a raise from from $604,500 to $3.9 million, Soroka was given a raise from $583,500 to $2.8 million and Yarbrough received a raise from $578,500 to $2.3 million rather than his request for $3.1 million. Pitchers Rich Hill and Collin McHugh reportedly have agreed to oneyear contracts with the Rays. Hill, a 40yearold lefthander who has pitched for nine teams including the A’s, agreed to a deal worth $2.5 million. Lefthander James Paxton is returning to the Seattle Mariners after an injury filled second season with the New York Yankees, reportedly agreeing to an $8.5 million, oneyear deal. In other baseball news, the Mets said righthande­r Seth Lugo needs elbow surgery for a bone spur and will miss the start of the season, and New York invited 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow to big league spring training . ... Agreeing to minorleagu­e deals with an invitation to big league spring training were former Mets AllStar Matt Harvey, who will try to revive his career with the Orioles; and outfielder Jay Bruce with the Yankees.

Skiing: Twotime Olympic skiing champion Ted Ligety’s career ended six days earlier than planned. The 36yearold American was to retire Friday after the giant slalom at the world championsh­ips in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, but said Saturday that a scan revealed his back was “herniated to the point it’s not safe to ski right now.”
