Hugo Giovannini

Giovannini, Hugo, age 89 of Novato, passed away on February 10, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amerigo and Ramona Naranjo Giovannini, one sister Lydia Rivera, and his beloved wife of 57 years Leia Giovannini. He is survived by his two sons David and Dana, daughter in-law Nancy Lyons Giovannini; grandchild­ren Lindsay Giovannini Brownell, Breanne Giovannini, Melanie Giovannini Verdusco, Domenica Giovannini and David G. Giovannini; great grandchild­ren Andrew and Dylan Brownell, Santana and Vincent Verdusco.

Hugo was a first generation San Franciscan, born and raised in North Beach. He graduated from Galileo High School and received a certificat­e of management from City College of San Francisco. He married his (Galileo) high school sweet heart Leia Monteverdi in 1950. They lived in the Cow Hollow neighborho­od of San Francisco where they raised their two sons. Hugo and Leia relocated to Novato in 1978.

Hugo worked 35 years as an owner operator for the Golden Gate Disposal Company of San Francisco, currently named Recology. He retired from Golden Gate Disposal in 1987, he was 55.

Hugo was an avid golfer and loved to fish for steelhead on the Russian River. He coached a SF intramural basketball team, and was a member of the St Vincent de Paul Father’s Club in the 60’s. He was an avid reader, a classic movie buff and loved handicappi­ng the ponies. Hugo loved his immediate and extended family very much.
