Lloyd Andrews Grotheer Jr.

He was born in Oakland, CA on November 19, 1927 to Lloyd and Dorothy (Campbell) Grotheer. The Grotheer family resided in Suisun Valley, CA. Lloyd was the 4th Grotheer generation to have lived in Suisun Valley.

He attended Suisun Valley elementary School. He graduated from Armijo High School in 1945 as class valedictor­ian. He attended U.C. Berkeley graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He worked at American Trust Bank prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He went to Officer Candidate School at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and was commission­ed a 2nd LT. He was stationed at Sampson Air Force Base in Upstate New York and later served in the Korean War.

His post war career was in retailing in San Francisco at the Emporium, The White House and 23 years at Macy’s CA where he served as the Employee Benefits Manager until his retirement in 1988.

He traveled extensivel­y in Europe as well as Mexico and Canada. He enjoyed cruising to Alaska and the Caribbean. He was a long time subscriber and donor to the San Francisco Symphony and Opera. He belonged to the San Francisco Speech Arts Associatio­n and the Downtown Garden club.

Lloyd lived a great life filled with music, friends, bridge, gardening, travel and family. He loved his home and garden with spectacula­r views of San Francisco. He enjoyed entertaini­ng in his home and he lived life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed. We are all fortunate to have had him in our lives. Our memories of Lloyd will last forever.

Lloyd is survived by his sister Susan Lippstreu (Ed deceased), nephew Bruce Lippstreu, nieces Lynn Lippstreu, Carol Lippstreu, Jill Green (Brian) and great nephews Ryan and Logan Wagner and Parker Green.

Burial at Rockville Cemetery will be private.
