Read Redwine, 80, of Mill Valley passed away peacefully at home on January 2, 2021 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born in Los Angeles on October 29,1940 and, following his graduation from the Harvard School, he attended Claremont Men’s College, in Claremont, California. After graduating from college, Read married Harriett Page of Danville, who attended neighboring Scripps College. They remained married until he passed.

The couple moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1965 where Read began a long and successful career in commercial real estate with the Edward Plant Company. He was involved in the redevelopments of Stonestown Galleria, Hillsdale Shopping Center, Stanford Shopping Center, Crocker Galleria, and the Embarcadero Center among others.

Read was a life-long outdoorsman, ever exploring and seeking adventure in the best of Northern California and the world. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, golf and scuba diving.

The Redwines were avid travelers and travelled with their sons and grandson on many varied family adventures. He was also known for his kindness and low key sense of humor. Read and his grandson, William, frequently discussed the superiority of either pancakes or waffles, respectively, and when his condition worsened and he developed Bell’s Palsy he jokingly blamed it on the waffles. When faced with a possible “blow out 75th birthday party” Read actively booked a two-week river cruise for himself and his wife along the Ganges River in India to avoid the hoopla, incidentally this was his third trip to India over the past decade. Read was a husband, a brother, a father and a grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Harriett, two sons, Kent Redwine and Chris Redwine, his grandson Willian Redwine, and his sister, Olivia Redwine.

His sporting equipment has been sold, as Read specified, to benefit charity. Gifts in Read’s name may be made to the California Waterfowl Association and Fisher House Foundation.
