Atilana Santiana Cook Calloway departed peacefully at home with family by her side on Sunday, March 7, 2021. Born October 5, 1921, in Corregidor, the Philippine­s, she is predecease­d by her loving husband of 43 years, Paul de la Rosa Calloway, her parents George and Matea Cook and all her siblings, George, Marita, Teodorica, Francis, Marcelino, Esperanza. Augustine and Lenora. She is survived by her dearly beloved children Dennis (MaryAnn), Thia (Lenny), John (Angie), Lisa and Barbara (Allen), devoted grandchild­ren Paul (Penelope), Megan (Cody), Kathleen and Christina and adored by her great grandson, Calvin. A survivor of World War II, Atilana was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon as an internee for her fortitude and courage that contribute­d materially to the success of the Philippine campaign. In 1945, along with her family, she relocated to San Francisco, her father’s birthplace. There she worked at the U.S. Naval Radiologic­al Defense Lab (N.R.D.L.) at Hunters Point, and towards the end of her career, as a secretary to the Coining Officer for the Bureau of the Mint in San Francisco. She retired from Federal service in 1982. From childhood, Anna had a love of music. She played the piano and violin and sang in the Cook Family band. She continued as a soloist with the Naval Base Choir and also with the Corpus Christi Church Sunday Choir. She will always be remembered for her love of music and dance, her rich soprano voice, quick mind and bright smile.
