Insidethepark HR starts Haase’s big day

-

Eric Haase hit a threerun, insidethepark homer and later cleared the fence for another threerun drive, leading the host Detroit Tigers over the White Sox 115 Saturday and snapping Chicago’s fivegame winning streak.

The Tigers trailed 20 and had two men on in the fourth inning when Haase hit a sinking liner that bounced past diving center fielder Billy Hamilton and rolled to the wall.

Haase’s second homer of the game sailed over the rightfield fence in the seventh. The six RBIs were a career high for Haase, who has four multihomer games this season.

“I don’t think anyone had the insidetheparker coming into this one,” Detroit manager AJ Hinch said. “We’ll take it. I’ve said before, when Haase homers once, stick around because he might homer twice. Great day.”

Dodgers 5, Nationals 3: Visiting Los Angeles waited out a long rain delay, then scored three runs in the fourth inning on two sacrifice flies and an RBI double from Gavin Lux. The Dodgers then took the lead without hitting a ball out of the infield in the top of the sixth on a hit by pitch, a fielder’s choice, an error and AJ Pollock’s RBI infield single to the third baseman. The dribbler had an exit velocity of 65.1 mph. Thus L.A. won it’s eighth straight.

Astros 3, Indians 2: Jake Odorizzi pitched six strong innings, Carlos Correa and Abraham Toro homered and visiting Houston sent Cleveland to a season-high fifth straight loss. Odorizzi (3-3) allowed one earned run and four hits while pitching into the seventh.

Brewers 11, Pirates 2: Omar Narvaez had five hits, Avisail Garcia drove in five runs and Jace Peterson added four RBIs as visiting Milwaukee rolled to its 11th straight victory, the Brewers’ longest winning streak since they began the 1987 season with a franchiserecord 13 victories in a row. The five hits — all singles — were a career high for Narvaez. Christian Yelich scored three times and drew three walks.

Mets 8, Yankees 3: Taijuan Walker took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, Brandon Nimmo provided a spark with three hits in his return from the injured list and the Mets won the first of the three-game Subway Series at Yankee Staduim. The Mets already led 8-0 when Aaron Judge homered with one out in the sixth to end Walker’s bid for the record-tying eighth nohitter in the majors this season.

Phillies 4, Padres 2: Bryce Harper homered and drove in two runs, Rhys Hoskins also went deep and host Philadelphia sent San Diego to its third straight loss. The start was delayed 2 hours, 1 minute due to rain and the game was stopped by rain for 45 minutes with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Zach Eflin (3-6) allowed two runs and three hits in six innings, and a Philadelphia bullpen that had blown 22 of 40 save chances coming in held the lead for a change. Bailey Falter, Archie Bradley and Ranger Suarez combined for three innings of one-hit, scoreless relief. Suarez earned his first professional save with a perfect ninth.

Reds 3, Cubs 2: Joey Votto and Tyler Naquin homered and host Cincinnati handed Chicago its eighth straight loss. Adbert Alzolay (4-8) gave up three runs and five hits in seven innings for the Cubs.

Royals 6, Twins 3: Hunter Dozier drove in three runs and Edwards Olivares hit a two-run shot for host Kansas City. Danny Duffy only lasted four innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks, but the Royals’ bullpen was solid for the second straight day. Minnesota’s Griffin Jax, the first draft pick ever from the Air Force Academy, allowed six runs and eight hits in his first career start.

Marlins 3, Braves 2: Sandy Alcantara pitched six strong innings and Garrett Cooper homered and drove in two runs for visiting Miami.

Blue Jays 6, Rays 3: George Springer homered for the second straight day, Santiago Espinal hit his first career home run and Toronto beat Tampa Bay in Buffalo, N.Y. The Blue Jays won for the 10th time in 13 games. Tampa Bay has lost five straight.
