Carleen Wolf Trares left this world on June 27, 2021, after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage while sleeping peacefully.

Carleen was born in Cincinnati and raised in Dayton, Ohio, the only child of Carl and Frances Wolf. In l963, after graduating from St. Elizabeth’s Nursing School in Dayton, Carleen and friends drove across the country to San Francisco seeking good times and companionship. She quickly found them in the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Trares, who conveniently happened to live in the same apartment building. Following a delightful extended courtship they were married in 1971 and settled into their new home in Burlingame. Over the next few years they spent time in Texas and two years in Saudi Arabia where Bob’s position of comptroller with the Shell Oil Company had taken him. After world wide travels, including visiting her beloved relatives in Germany, they returned to Burlingame where Bob passed away in 1999.

Carleen enjoyed a lengthy satisfying career as a Labor and Delivery Room nurse at several hospitals in San Francisco including Notre Dame, U.C. Med and over 30 years at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Never one to remain idle, she also worked at a hospital in Houston, Texas while Bob was assigned there.

Carleen possessed all of the qualities one would hope for in a nurse. In keeping with her strong devotion to her Catholic faith, she demonstrated deep sympathy and compassion towards anyone who might be suffering or otherwise disadvantaged. Similar concerns even extended to the animal world where her love of dogs, in particular, was evident to all who knew her.

In summary, Carleen was just a wonderful and gracious person who was a joy to be around. She will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be scheduled.
