Marilyn Mosher

December 22, 1931-June 26, 2021

Marilyn Miller was born on December 22, 1931 in Oakland, CA and entered eternal rest on June 26, 2021 in St. Helena, CA. Her parents Selma and Keith Miller along with her dear brother Barry and his wife Yvonne Miller predeceased her, as did her cherished youngest son Paul.

Marilyn met the love her life Karl Mosher in Berkeley while in 6th grade and they later married on April 16, 1949. Karl and Marilyn were blessed with five sons and one daughter. Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother filling their home with love, strong moral values and laughter. Karl and Marilyn provided for the their large family with lots of fun parties, dinners and celebrations. Children include: Richard (Kathryn), Stephen (Elizabeth), David, Marianne (Al), Robert (Carol) and Paul. Life was filled with the joys of family life including their nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Abraham (Lindsay), Thompson (Sunshine), Jill Ann (Mark), Kaylee (Cameron), Matthew (Lauren), Jonathan (Lauren), Mia, Shayla and Michael. Great-grandchildren include Kingston, Koa, Knox, and Lennon.

Marilyn utilized her sharp mind, quick wit and endless energy in a life of service to her family, the Catholic Church and variety of philanthropic and educational organizations including: President of the U.C. Berkeley Dames Club in the early 1950’s, 10 year member of the Berkeley Women’s Clinic Auxiliary, President Parent Teacher Group (PTG) St. Theresa School, Chairman of Advisory Board for Bishop O’Dowd and St. Mary’s High Schools, 4 year president PTG board of directors for Oakland diocese 52 schools, member of the Foothill Branch of Oakland Children’s Hospital for 20 years and chairperson for two years, co-chaired the annual White Elephant sale for the Oakland Museum of California and member of the Oakland Museum Women’s Board for many years, selected to serve on the Grand Jury for Alameda County, co-founded FACE (Family Aid Catholic Education) in 1977 and thus honored with the “1000 Thanks” award in 1996 by the Oakland Catholic Diocese for her endless years of work for FACE, charter member of St. Vincent de Paul St. Helena Catholic Church for over 20 yrs.

In mid-life, Marilyn purchased a red convertible car, learned to play tennis with passion and joy, and even started a tennis clothing business. Throughout her life Marilyn was known for her great personal style and flair for home décor.

After raising their family, Karl and Marilyn left Oakland and moved to St. Helena, CA where they quickly became active in the community and enjoyed many hours in their lovely home, pool and garden. When most people retire to a quieter existence, Marilyn decided to join the work force at the fashionable home décor store Vanderbilt’s in St. Helena where she pursued her creative interest in design. No one could set a table, arrange a room or enhance a home like Marilyn and we all looked forward to being guests in their enchanting home. She always had friends galore! While she enjoyed playing bridge, telling engaging stories and traveling in the U.S. and Europe, no place on earth captured Karl and Marilyn’s love of nature, as did South Lake Tahoe and Maui. They visited Camp Richardson’s Resort with family for 63 years and this tradition continues with the succeeding generations. Good times at the beach, great meals with the extended family and laughter around the campfire will continue with thoughts and love for Marilyn. Maui also held a special place for the devoted couple where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with all the family in 1999. Marilyn was always ready for fun, sought out learning opportunities and had a deep belief in her Catholic faith. We know she will be welcomed into the arms of our Father and there find everlasting life.

Marilyn’s many activities and contributions to society are far too many to list, but she exemplified a “Life Well Lived” and will be missed always by her loving husband, family and friends. A memorial mass will be held at 12:00 on Saturday, August 14 at St Helena Catholic Church, 1340 Tainter St., St. Helena, Ca. Reception following the service.
