Marie Loretta Monaco
October 8, 1969 - June 29, 2021
Marie Loretta Monaco most recently of Burlingame, CA, but previously of San Francisco CA, Moraga CA, Colorado Springs CO, Belmont CA, Hillsborough CA, and South San Francisco, passed away in her sleep early in the morning of June 29, 2021. She was born October 8, 1969 in San Francisco, started school at Camino Pablo School in Moraga CA, then St. Perpetua in Lafayette CA, Corpus Christi and St. Mary’s High School in Colorado Springs. She earned her Associates Degree at College of the Siskiyou, BA degree in art at UC Davis and a teaching credential and MA degree in art education from Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, CA. She taught art at Crocker Middle School in Hillsborough CA, for many years before the challenges of MS against which she struggled with great optimism, unique confidence and determination forced her to take early disability retirement. She tried to live in her home in South San Francisco with a caregiver, but after she almost died of sepsis, she moved to the Mills Estate Villa where she continued to be the fun, bright, light she had been all her life.
She is survived by her parents Albert M. Monaco
Jr. and Loretta Tuck Monaco of San Mateo. Her brother Richard A. Monaco predeceased her. Marie will be most remembered for her creative art in many media, her fantasy short stories and her love for Harry Potter and Elf Quest stories. She was especially fond of her affiliation with Walton’s Grizzly Lodge Camp in Portola CA where she was the wrangler. Her favorite sports to play were soccer in which she was a spectacular goalkeeper and Gaelic football because she “loved to hit.” A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
